On November 25, 2004 at 0402 hrs. Patrolman John Cox, a two (2) year veteran of the South Bend Police Department, was seriously injured during a traffic accident in the 1900 block of North Bendix .

Patrolman Cox had been enroute to assist other officers in a foot pursuit when he lost control of his squad car and crashed into a utility pole. His car had been split in two and firefighters had to extract Ptlmn. Cox, who had been trapped inside for two hours.

Patrolman Cox was hospitalized for his injuries that include a concussion and broken bones.

As of November 29, 2004 he is expected to remain in the hospital for another ten to twelve days.
